Possibly the best kept secret within the dog world, the Powderpuff Chinese Crested possesses the same loving attitude as their Hairless counterparts, without the 'hairlessness' that sometimes scares off potential adopters. So many people fall in love with the breed's attitude and joy for life, but aren't looking for the demands (and attention) that owning a hairless dog entails. These people are thrilled when they learn of the Powderpuff Chinese Crested, which is born in the same litter and competes in the same ring as its hairless siblings. Other than coat and dentition, the Hairless and Powderpuff Chinese Cresteds are identical.

The Puff Advantage
We aren't saying that Puffs are 'better' than Hairless, but they do have some advantages you may not have considered.

• Being fully coated, they are not susceptible to some skin issues such as sunburns and blackheads that the hairless can encounter.
• As a non-shedding breed, they typically do well with people who have allergies, although no breed is completely hypo-allergenic (despite what some may claim).
• Since they are fully coated, they require no more specialized care than any other coated breed, making regular grooming and maintenance easy even for those unfamiliar with the breed.
• Chinese Cresteds are typically in the 10-12lb range, athletic and energetic but do not require excess exercise, making them excellent family companions.

Grooming Options
You don't need to keep your Powderpuff in full coat, all that hair is a lot of work! Like other breeds with continuous growth coats, Powderpuffs can be trimmed into a variety of cute, easy to care for cuts. Traditionally, when Powderpuffs are clipped down, they are shaved into a 'Pony' cut, keeping furnishings on the crest, feet and tail, with a close cut over the rest of the dog. This gives the outline of the Hairless, with a very velvety feel. But this is not the only option, get creative!
